It’s unlikely that you will get ill. For it’s size and variable climate, visitors seldom fall ill thanks to the careful drinking and food awareness that you’d exercise in most other Asian countries. It certainly, for example, doesn’t have the illness association that India is notorious for. In fact, you'd be very unlucky to get any kind of illness. Although sometimes, very spicy food can blast a whole through your stomach and send you to the toilet rather urgently.
Never drink tap water, only buy bottled water (typically between 1-2RMB unless in touristy hotels) and always check the caps seal is in tact. Don’t drink water that you think may have been tampered with.
’Nightmarkets’ are outdoor eating zones that sell freshly cooked food (often spicy) as well as beer by the bottle, sometimes in large towers. Even these food dishes and kebabs are quite safe to eat.
Avoid these flasks, as they could contain watered down beer or some tap water and therefore ruin your remaining time in China. (See Food on spice management).
