Time:

China runs on a single, Beijing time. This is 8 hoursaheadof GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). In Xinjiang, due to it’s far westerly location and therefore out-of-sync daylight hours, an ‘informal’ Xinjiang time is used. This is two hours difference from Beijing time and is operated by most business and eateries, particularly by the native Uighur population. Official systems, such as public transport, TV, schooling etc, run on Beijing time. Be wary if travelling through the province by bus as you may be told the time in Xinjiang time, yet the bus leaves using Beijing time! Finally, China doesnotchange its clocks forwards or backwards to compensate for daylight changes as in most western countries. This makes travelling through a country the size of China incredibly convenient.
